AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1
Please follow the recommendation from your artist, for how many days to leave the second skin on. Typically 3-7 days.
How to remove second skin:
- Wash your hands first, then slowly and gently remove the second skin with warm water and unscented soap (preferably a gentle foaming soap).
- Air dry or pat dry (don't rub) with a clean paper towel.
- Apply a very thin layer of unscented lotions or healing ointment, e.g. Aquaphor, Lubriderm, or Hustle. Do this 2-3 times per day for the next 2-3 weeks.
Your tattoo should start to scab, don't panic! Scabbing is a normal part of the healing process.
- Apply a thin layer of moisturizing lotion, do this 2-3 times per day for 2-3 weeks.
- Do not pick, scratch, or pull the scabs.
- Avoid wearing anything that snags on the scabs.
- Moisturize regularly (wash hands always before handling your healing tattoo).
- Keep the tattoo area clean.
- Do not pick or scratch at it.
- Protect from the sun and soaking in water.
IMPORTANT
- Please do not use sunscreen on the tattoo till after 4 weeks.
- No exercising or working out 4-7 days after the day of your tattoo.
- Please avoid submerging the tattoo in water or getting the tattoo wet during the first 3-6 weeks. Stay out of pools, hot tubs, rivers, lakes, the ocean, and any other bodies of water while your tattoo is healing.
- Please do not expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight for the first 4 weeks, especially the first 2 weeks. Sun can cause damage to the healing of your tattoo and even after, always remember to wear sunscreen to protect your tattoo from fading and/or sunburns.
- Choose clothing carefully. Do not wear anything that might stick to the tattoo during the healing process.
- Refrain from consuming any alcohol while your tattoo is healing.
- Avoid foods that promote inflammation - red meats, foods high in sugar, salts, additives as well as overly processed foods or an excessive amount of dairy.
- Lastly, stay hydrated!
